The Menu: Classic 70s Comfort Food

The food had to match the theme, and I went with classic dishes that defined the decade. The 70s were all about hearty, comforting meals, and this menu did not disappoint.

Main Course: Pot Roast with Gremolata – A slow-cooked, tender beef roast with a fresh and zesty gremolata topping. This dish was a staple of home-cooked meals in the 70s, and the gremolata gave it a fresh twist. Get the recipe here!

Side Dish: Garlic Mashed Potatoes – Creamy, buttery mashed potatoes with just the right amount of garlic for extra flavor. A perfect complement to the pot roast. Grab the recipe here!

Dessert: Strawberry Icebox Cake – A simple, no-bake dessert that was popular in the 70s. Layers of vanilla wafers, fresh strawberries, and sweet whipped cream come together in this refreshing treat. Find the recipe here!

Drinks:

  • For the kids: Shirley Temples – A fun, fizzy drink made with lemon-lime soda, grenadine, and a maraschino cherry on top. Classic and always a hit.

  • For the adults: Blue Kamikazes – A vibrant blue cocktail made with vodka, blue curaçao, and lime juice. It looked as fun as it tasted!

Every dish brought a taste of nostalgia, and the drinks added an extra touch of fun for both kids and adults.

The Activity: Tie-Dye T-Shirts

Before dinner, we embraced the DIY spirit of the 70s with a fun tie-dye activity. Each family member got their own white T-shirt and experimented with different colors and patterns. Watching the designs come to life after rinsing was such a cool moment!

If you’re planning a 70s night, tie-dyeing is an easy, mess-friendly activity that kids (and adults) will love. Just be sure to:

✅ Use gloves to keep hands stain-free.
✅ Wear old clothes (because dye can get messy!).
✅ Set up outside or cover surfaces for easy cleanup.
✅ Let the shirts sit overnight for the best color vibrancy.

Once our shirts were finished, we let them set while we enjoyed dinner.

The Movie: Scooby-Doo for the Win

After a delicious meal, we curled up for a classic 70s cartoon—Scooby-Doo! With its groovy mystery-solving crew and fun antics, it was the perfect pick to round out the night.

The kids absolutely loved it, and it made for a cozy way to wind down after an exciting evening. Watching old-school cartoons is such a great way to introduce kids to what you grew up with and enjoy some nostalgic laughs together.
