Ingredients:

  • Olive Oil (1 tbsp)

  • Butter (2 tbsp)

  • 1 Yellow Onion, diced

  • Cajun Andouille Sausage, sliced into coins

  • Garlic (2-3 cloves, minced)

  • Seasonings: Onion Powder (1 tsp), Garlic Powder (1 tsp), Salt & Pepper to taste

  • Chicken Broth (32 oz)

  • Heavy Whipping Cream (2½ cups)

  • Bowtie Pasta (1 box, uncooked)

  • Cajun Seasoning (2 tbsp, I used Emeril’s)

  • Shredded Parmesan Cheese (1½ cups)

  • Optional: Slap Ya Mama seasoning and parsley for garnish

    For the shrimp:

  • Shrimp (1 lb, peeled & deveined)

  • Butter (2 tbsp)

  • Garlic (2-3 cloves, minced)

  • Seasonings: Garlic Powder, Cajun Seasoning, Salt & Pepper

  • Chicken Broth (¼ cup)

  • Dry White Wine (¼ cup)

  • Lemon, juiced

Directions:

Step 1: Cook the Sausage & Onions

Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Sauté diced onions until soft, about 3-5 minutes. Add in the sliced Andouille sausage and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, releasing all those wonderful aromas.

Step 2: Build the Cajun Base

Season the mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Pour in the chicken broth, turn the heat to high, and let it simmer for 5-6 minutes to deepen the flavors.

Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce

Lower the heat and stir in heavy whipping cream, uncooked bowtie pasta, and Cajun seasoning. Adjust the amount of seasoning depending on how spicy you like it. Cover and let it cook on medium heat for about 25 minutes, until the pasta is tender and the sauce is thickened.

Step 4: Prepare the Shrimp

While the pasta is simmering, heat butter in a separate pan over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds, then add the shrimp. Sprinkle with garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, and salt and pepper. Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice, and dry white wine. Stir occasionally until the shrimp are pink and curled, about 4-5 minutes. Set aside.

Step 5: Combine & Serve

Once the pasta is done, stir in the cooked shrimp and shredded Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy. Taste and add extra Cajun seasoning if desired. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately with crispy bread on the side.

Tips:

  • Control the Spice: If you’re sensitive to heat, start with 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning and add more to taste.

  • Wine Substitute: If you don’t have dry white wine, you can replace it with additional chicken broth for a milder flavor.

  • Don’t Overcook the Shrimp: Keep an eye on the shrimp—they cook fast! Overcooked shrimp can become rubbery, so pull them off the heat as soon as they’re pink.

This Cajun Shrimp & Sausage Bowtie Pasta recipe brings a bit of Southern warmth to your home. Whether you’re cooking for family or entertaining guests, it’s a comforting, flavorful meal that will have everyone asking for seconds! Enjoy!
